The fall pumpkin season will officially begin with The Great Pumpkin Run for Education
on Saturday, October 10th, at Back Home on the Farm.
The race will include a 1-mile walk and a 5K run, and will take place cross country-style
through the fields of the farm. All proceeds from the race will benefit the Rockingham
Educational Foundation, Inc. The foundation fundraises and facilitates programs to enhance
quality education for the Rockingham County Public Schools.
There will be prizes for the most sponsorship funds raised and turned in on race day.
Participants should bring their sponsorship funds in an envelope before the race/walk begins on
the day of the event. The registration fee is waived for everyone who brings in $50 in
sponsorship funds and the individual will receive a pumpkin from the farm.
The event will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10th, for all of the preliminaries
involved with registration. Registrations will also be accepted on the day of the event. The 1-
mile run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. and the 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Awards will be given for the top three individuals in multiple categories, both male and
female. Each registrant will be given a t-shirt, breakfast, a free admission for the Back Home on
the Farm to be used the day of the race, and refreshments. (T-shirts are guaranteed for the
individuals who register by Sept. 30.)
Pre-registration is available now through Sept. 30 for $15 for the 1-mile race and $20 for the 5K race. After Sept. 30, the registration for the 1-mile race is $20 and 5K race is $25. Fees can be paid by cash, checks or credit cards. Checks should be made payable to the Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc. or REFI.
Registration forms are available from the REFI website, the County School Board Office
and from Hess Greenhouse at Back Home on the Farm. Forms should be mailed with payment to
REFI, 100 Mount Clinton Pike, Harrisonburg, VA. 22802.
